After a few more moments, he laughs. "Time to see about that treasure, wouldn't you say?"
He holds your hand and picks up the torch and pulls you along to the back of the room where a treasure chest awaits.

He dismounts and leads his horse towards a rocky outcropping. When you get nearer, you see that a door has been carved into the rock, but there is no handle that you can see.
"Beautiful, isn't it? It's locked with a riddle. Treasure galore in there, I can promise you that."
He grins.
"Well? Do you want to take a crack at opening it?"

Her eyes sparkle in the torchlight. "Do you want to try to solve this or should I?"

Your friend, confidant, and advisor, Lord Mio, would not have sent you on this trip if he didn't think it absolutely worth while. You hope. Still, you've never heard of a "blind date" before. You hope they aren't actually blind, but if they were, there would be little point in holding onto a rose for them to see. It's all rather perplexing.
The question remains, though.

<</if>> At the very least, this should be a good story to tell at the end of the day. You dismount and give the stable lad a coin for looking after your horse. You take a deep breath and enter the establishment.
The smell that assaults you is rich: cooking meat, roasting vegetables, and the smoky warmth of a merrily roaring fire. All manner of people are sitting at tables and benches. Tradesmen, farmers, adventurers; they all seem well represented here.
The man you assume to be the owner peers at you quizzically, doubtlessly wondering if you're really who you are or just a really good body double. He looks around and then takes you to a table suitably close to the door for your purposes.
You sit. The proprietor assures you that he will be back with a tankard of his finest beverage.
And now to wait. You look around at the other patrons, wondering again who your blind date might be. It should be easy to narrow it down, shouldn't it? For one thing, Lord Mio knows the type of companionship that you usually seek, surely.

"Well! That could have gone worse." Damian looks you up and down with a smile before leading you to the stable. Your horse wickers in greeting and you saddle her quickly. By the time you swing into the saddle, Damian is already waiting impatiently.
"Come along! Treasure awaits us!"
He spurs his horse to gallop out of the yard just as the soldiers begin stumbling out of the door. You tap your horse's sides and gallop after your companion into the night.

People are running around with buckets, fetching water from the well to try and put out the flames in the burning building. Damian gives you a sideglance before leading you to the stable where the nervous animals whicker in alarm.
You saddle your horse and mount up. Damian is already waiting impatiently.
"Come along, then. Treasure awaits us."
He spurs his horse to gallop out of the yard just as the soldiers begin stumbling out of the door. You tap your horse's sides and gallop after your companion into the night.

4 medium turnips (about 1½ pounds) plus 1½ cups thinly sliced turnip greens or spinach, divided
2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil, divided
1 tablespoon butter
1 medium onion, sliced
½ teaspoon dried rosemary
½ teaspoon salt plus a pinch, divided
¼ teaspoon freshly ground white pepper plus a pinch, divided
4 cups reduced-sodium chicken broth
¼ cup shredded carrot
2 tablespoons thinly sliced scallion greens
2 teaspoons white-wine vinegar
1) Peel and slice turnips. Heat 1 tablespoon oil and butter in a large cauldron over medium heat. Add onion and cook, stirring, until beginning to brown, about 5 minutes. Add the turnips, rosemary, ½ teaspoon salt and ¼ teaspoon white pepper; stir to combine. Cover and cook, stirring once or twice, for 10 minutes.
2) Add broth, increase heat to high and bring to a boil. Reduce heat to maintain a simmer, cover and cook until the turnips are tender, 10 to 12 minutes more.
3) Meanwhile, toss the turnip greens (or spinach) in a medium bowl with carrot, scallion greens, vinegar, the remaining 1 tablespoon oil and pinch of salt and pepper.
4) Puree the soup in the cauldron until smooth. Serve each portion of soup topped with a generous ¼ cup of the salad.
