Sloan Marie

Sloane, 15 years old and in high school, is currently taking an environmental studies class. This area of study was once only offered in college but due to the growing fear of the effects of climate change, the government has decided to bring awareness to kids even younger. In hopes to find some answers and understanding of the world around her she was excited for her first day. On her first day of class, the teacher broke the class into groups to discuss what each person thought about the climate change debate and whether or not they thought humans could actually colonize Mars. Sloane had never had these sorts of conversations, she had never been exposed to any other opinion other than her fathers. Sloane’s father was a millennial, he was in his 20’s when Donald Trump was president of the United States. Back then, the countries and the world's division had just begun. He was a staunch republican, often times when she would bring anything up about climate change he was yell “fake news!” and shut the conversation down. The afternoon she got back from school she decided to try again. She wanted to has a constructive conversation about both sides of the argument. Her father felt so strongly on the subject she sometimes questioned if she should just believe him or if she should follow her own intuition. After all, he never steered her wrong. She tries to discuss what she has learned in her class when her father becomes furious with her. He tells her it is a hoax and a waste of the taxpayers money to invest in a “space travel program only the rich libs can use”. Should sloane back off, agree to disagree and continue learning about this divisive subject? Sloan decides to listen to her fathers viewpoint on the situation, she isn't a quitter so she sticks out the course. All the while believing her father that the situation is not dire and that she will be able to live a long comfortable life on Earth. The years pass, and she is gearing up for college. Her major decision is to stay in state or to see whats going on in another part of the country. She's never left the state, and she wonders how college will shape her viewpoint on the most highly debated topic of her generation. Should she stay? or should she move? Sloan ends the fight for sake of sanity, but she knows in her heart something terrible is coming for their future if nothing is done. She continues her studies and interest in climate change. The years go by and Sloane's interest has grown. She has never talked with her father again about climate change. Sloane has been at college for about a year now, shes got a better understanding of what is going on in the world. Particularly California, where the wild fires have nearly wiped out half of the state. She knows in her heart she needs to be part of something bigger. At this point the governments have prototype space shuttles regularly making trips to Mars. It has become widely accepted that there will be a fraction of society moving to start a colony. Different parts of the world are facing catastrpohic events. Wildfires in California, Flooding in NY, Floridas coast is starting to skrink due to sea levels rising. She has two major decisions. Does she study climate solutions and hopfully enter a field where she can help in a tangible way? or does she study environmental business so she can hopfully one day run a business to help facilitate the needs of people most effected? Sloane successfully finished her business degree and has since volunteered for the red cross. Things on Earth have been increasingly getting worse. Each year the fires in her home state come sooner and stay longer. It has been 5 years since she graduated and started working for Environmental Solutions. ES is responsible for the manufacturing various tools for the human race to live comfrotably. Two of their main inventions have help those effected by fires or floods. ES provides flood barriers for lower income households who cannot afford to move to a different city or who are in the process of evacuation from cities that have become uninhabitable (such as the cities on floridas coast, which have all been under water for four years now). ES also provides prefab homes that are completely resiliant to fires. Sloane has been passionate about this since she was a shy 15 year old girl, learning about the effects of climate change in high school. This motivation has awarded her the position of CEO where she can truly help people all over the country. Sloanes relationship with her father has remained strong, but he is frail and does not want to accept that the Earth can no longer be their home. Sloanes job is to help those who cannot afford to move to Mars, those who physically cannot go such as the elderly, or those whoa re too afraid to leave what they've always known. [[ceo]]

California wildfires are out of control, worst in recorded history. climate change adversaries have taken to the streets to protest. Anger and chaos surround the city. Most of the planet has evacuated to Mars. Sloane knows in her heart there is nothing more she can do. Some of her trusted employees have stayed behind for her but she lets them go. To be with their families, evacuate themselves. Earths continents are shifting due to the constant quakes. She remembers the great earth quake that his back in 2047. The one that split california in half and devastated the nation. NY city is almost completely underwater, those who survived evacuated years ago. There is only one week left for the shuttles and Sloane is left with the inmpossible decision to stay here with her ailing father or to leave and start the colony on Mars. [[stay]] [[go]]
