Gabriel was born to a family of 7 near Auckland, New Zealand in a rural town called Glenfield. In the year 2000 he is unaware that the land he knows as home will change over time from effects of irreparable climate change.
Glenfield began as a fishermans' port for wayward sailors who often traveled between Australia and Northern New Zealand looking to rest before their travels. It was here the Wallace's first established their residency and have since been a family of shepherds for many decades.
This story is not uncommon amoung the families living in Glenfield and because of this are respected by the town. Public matters concerning the welfare of the town and their way of life are influenced largely by the [[Wallace Family]].Double-click this passage to edit it.Double-click this passage to edit it.Growing up with a family that carries a large influence in the community allowed Gabriel to explore privileges not granted to most people. At 13 he was given the responsibility of managing the family's market stalls that brought in the majority of their living wage.
This work was meaningful and brought him the skill of trade and getting to know the community that seemed to know his family so well already. Through the next four years, however, minor shifts in global tempuratures began to affect the prosperity of the farm.
During his sophomore year Gabriel enrolled in an elective class on global politics that confused and intrigued him. He took a special interest in the historical figures that were more foreful than their peers, because they seemed to get things done - and he wanted to know what that kind of power felt like.
Shortly before finishing highschool at the age of 18 Gabriel was faced [[with a decision to make]] about where he would go study.During his final semester, an option for school abroad became available. The decision was not acknowledged by Gabriel's family as they were unconvinced that leaving could be beneficial in the way that staying with the community could be. It was not their fault for believing this and he knew that leaving abroad meant starting with almost nothing.
Although the Wallace family had deep ties to the community the town of Glenfield was neither rich or powerful in politics and finances. Their matters concerned mostly their small population and preserving their town as an unchanging haven.
While he mulled over the thought of starting with nothing, it was hard to avoid the thoughts of how his local community had changed as well. His first observations came when the wool and produce production steadily grew more difficult in the face of [[weather pattern changes]].Beginning in the winter of 2012 the average daily tempurature had risen by a full degree. While the effects were largely unnoticed in the following years the town began to notice a decrease in produce production and increase in expenditures for keeping livestock healthy.
A few families were forced to find alternative means of income during the unpredicted heatwave of 2015 through 2017 where hundreds of acres of farmland were lost to drought. The Wallace's were also hurting financially to sustain the water and food costs for their livestock which affected wool production - a large source of income for them.
At the age of 18, Gabriel had to decide if he would stay and [[move to nearby Auckland]] to join the political party or [[go to America to study]].Deciding to stay at home with the farm and maintain his currently lifestyle, Gabriel slowly starts to become more involved with the community. He attends a local college to and studies political science and communications while also working as a shepherd when he’s not in class. After graduation the community begins to feel some minor effects of global warming and because of Auckland’s annual flooding problem, some farm lands are being destroyed beyond repair. As a natural activist, you decide to get into politics and run for a local position to start making change. Soon after becoming a regular influencer for change in your area, Gabriel gets a call from the Embassy of New Zealand in the United States to come work. After some debate, it’s determined that he will have more room for his ambitions in the United States, so he decides to leave. Now in the United States, Gabriel starts with nothing and has just less than $4,000 USD saved from working and selling some of his belongings to make his start. After securing a place to live and a part time job he starts school studying journalism.
The year is 2018, fall.
The part time job at a local law firm pays well enough to afford the inner-city studio and to eat every other day - or just one meal each day. Gabriel isn't used to living in a city, in fact, he didn't go to Auckland much unless for special occasions, so this might as well be Mars. George Washington University is expensive, and to maintain his attendence there he is forced to take out a loan which is not uncommon for foreign students.
The years is [[2025]], fall. After graduating Gabriel still had little to go on. His family had begun to check in on his job prospecting more and more - he could tell they were hurting for money. New Zealand and other island terrotories had been in the news more and more as water levels continued to rise.
