The perfectionist in you needs everything to be perfect. You start to panic. Will they like my style? Is it cool enough? Original enough? Preppy enough? Expensive enough? You have one shot to impress. Nothing in your closet seems [[worthy enough]] anymore. You head to the mall and try on tons of dresses. It starts to feel like you've been telling the same story about that one time at camp a dozen times, and that the only thing these girls keep asking you is superficial things like your favorite tv or your major. Is this what Greek Life is really like? How much longer is this day going to [[last]]? You've made it through the first day! [[You continue on.]] ***or*** You realize that this Greek Life is not for you. You can't take the critiscm. "Was I too superficial?" you ask yourself? If you feel comfortable doing this, you can go to your [[Rho Gamma]] to get [[advice from her.]] The first house that invited you back isn't that bad. They are [[lower tier]], but you had a nice time, and really connected with their philanthropy. You like that they raise money, particpate in direct service and have strong interaction with other chapters. Before you know it, the 30 minutes are up and you're rushing to your [[next party.]] Your Rho Gamma is your mentor throughout the recruitment process. She disafilliated from her chapter to serve as an objective liason during your recruitment process. She will be present in between rounds to answer any questions or concerns you may have. You return home, frustrated, overwhelmed, and saddened. You had wanted to go greek for such a long time, but it didn't work out. Maybe you'll try again next year. You start to consider where you might be calling the rest of your college days, home. You rank your favorite houses, and go home, ready for what [[round three]] will bring. You know the chance of your favorite house is gone, but you still really want to be affilliated with a Greek organization and prove that a woman from a diverse background can be a member of Greek life. After pref, it's time to rank the two sororites you visited. Which one do you want a bid from? [[The low-tier one]] [[The random one that kept inviting you back where you didn't have any connections with the girls.]] You don't want either of them and decide to [[drop out]] after going through the whole intensive process. You come to realize that the low tier sorority could be your home away from home. The girls are nice and you feel comfortable here. Even though it's not the most popular chapter on campus, it's part of a nationally recognized and strong network with endless opportunities. On bid day, you show up with an open mind, and meet the girls who will become your new best friends and accept you for you. For sake of appearances, you go to the chapter where you had shallow conversations. You immediately realize on bid day that you don't fit in. You realize you're shallow yourself for joining this sorority over the other one where you knew the girls actually liked you, but was less popular on campus. They also haze you. You hate it, and you drop before initiation. You can try the process again next year, but you will be a year older. They are accepting of you, and if because they encourage diversity is why they are lower tier, you don't want to a part of those other chapters anywat. Happy Pref Day! Keep in mind this information when you play. 1. Ideal Sorority Woman: everything stereoptypical you think about in pop culture-- thin, rich, and white 2. Thin, Black Woman: she's pretty, and perfectly normal from a respectable background, but there isn't much diversity in Greek Life, so she feels disadvantaged 3. Plus-Size Woman: where does a woman on the larger scale fit into Greek Life, and how will she find sisters who will judge her based on her personality and values over appearances. 4. Feminine Lesbian: she owns her sexuality, and is looking to be a part of something on campus. The top-tier house is so much fun on [[bid day]]! It seems like you made the best choice for you! But then you realize it's not perfect, and every chapter has its own internal problems and drama. And everybody kind of looks the same. You still love your chapter and meet some awesome people. You even consider taking a role with PHA, which is the governing body over all the chapters to meet the range of people in Greek Life. the invitation sororites extend to those they want to offer membership to Bid day comes!
