All that is certain is that two members of one of Canada’s wealthiest families died from gunshot wounds on June 13, 1901. Ada Maria Mills Redpath, the 59-year old widow of industrialist John James Redpath, and her 24-year old son Jocelyn Clifford Redpath (“Cliff”) were shot in Ada’s bedroom in the Redpath mansion in Montreal’s affluent Square Mile district. Beyond these facts it is difficult [[to know what happened]].
As Peter Redpath told the story, he heard shots, dashed to his mother’s bedroom, and found her and his younger brother Cliff lying on the floor. The family servants rushed to help. It was June 13, 1901, at 6 pm. Mrs. Redpath died instantly.

[[I wonder what Dr. Bell has to say.]]
[[That Peter Redpath. He's trouble.]]How thrilling! It feels just like a play!
[[I wonder what Dr. Bell has to say.]]
[[That Peter Redpath. He's trouble.]] The young man’s wound was to his left temple. That of the deceased was to the back of her head. I was called at ten to six.

[[That Peter Redpath. He's trouble.]]
[[Are you saying ...he harmed himself?!]]Yesterday afternoon at around four-thirty, I came home and, entered the room of my brother. I said hello, and he left.
An instant later, I hear a shot, immediately followed by another. I froze with fear and then rushed forward, but as I was about to open the door to my mother’s room, a third shot rang out from within.
I threw my shoulder against the door, broke it down and entered the room to find the hideous site.

[[I wonder what Dr. Bell has to say.]] How bold...! How dare you...! This is clearly nothing but a horrible, horrible accident!
