would use their education to educate the poor. The settlement focused more on the education of culture, believing that knowledge could lift them out of poverty. Through this experience, she was inspired to create a similar settlement in Chicago but with one big difference, it would be women centered. This is how, with the help of her long time friend Ellen Gates Starr, the Hull-House was started in 1889.

The Hull-House was located on the block of South Halsted Street and West Polk Street. It stood as a beacon of hope for an immigrant population that was in a constant struggle to survive. The building of the Hull-House looked to further the communities education, while also establishing social services such as sanitation, education, and workers rights.
