Think about your everday life. How often do you come into contact with technology? Do you always engage? Lets start with a typical day... [[Good morning.]] It's _ o'clock. You wakeup [[naturally]] and realize that you still have 45 minutes before your alarm is set to go off. What do you do? [[Press snooze and go back to sleep]] [[Start the day]] Alarm? [[I never set an alarm clock.]] You forgot to shut your blinds last night. The sunlight beams through your window, and wakes you up. Forty-five minutes has passed, and your alarm sounds. [[You press snooze]]. You're so happy to wake-up before your alarm. It was a struggle to get out of bed at first but now that you are, you feel refreshed and ready to start the day. You pick out a fine outfit (take a peek in the [[mirror]]) and make yourself a nice wholesome breakfast. You have an hour until it's time for you to head to class for your presentation. What do you do in the meantime? [[Watch an episode of the latest show you've been binge watching]] [[Practice for your presentation]] You think alarm clocks are so unreliable. You always say, what's the point when you can press snooze? You just rely on your natural body clock. [[Watch an episode of the latest show you've been binge watching]] [[Practice for your presentation]] Five minutes later... [[You press snooze.]] Ten minutes later... [[You press snooze.]] - - - - - If you don't wakeup now you're going to be [[late.]] You finally get to class and your hands and face are bright red. You forgot to check the weather before you left. You did not dress appropriately for the weater...it's very cold outside. You can't believe you forgot. The first thing you do before getting dressed is to always... [[Check the weather app on your phone]] [[Place your hand out the window to feel the temperature]] You rush to the bathroom and quickly go through your morning routine. You then run to your closet and rummage through all your clothes. You're throwing items onto your floor, as you try to find something easy and comfortable to wear. You're all dressed, your bag is packed, and you approach the door. You look back and notice you forgot your phone. You then realize the mess you left behind. You begin to feel anxious that you won't have enough time to clean before your [[roommate]] comes home later. He/she gets very upset when you leave your stuff around the room. But there's no time left. You have a presenation to do and cannot even be a minute late. You grab your [[phone]] and race to [[class.]] Jordan has only been your roommate for 3 months. You get along really well and really like eachother but you tend to disagree when it comes to organization. Jordan feels anxiety when his/her room is messy. He/she has come to you multiple times before to tell you how upset he/she gets when you leave your things around. You told him/her that you understand, and promised to never let it happen again. You look great! Now you... [[Snapchat for all your friends to see how great you look.]] [[Smile, and make breakfast.]] If only you could stay home and watch it all day. But the hour is up... You should really get to [[class.]] You run through your presentation one more time and make sure your note cards have all the points you plan to make. You then think...wouldn't it be a good idea to record yourself rehearsing the presentation on your phone. You can then listen to the recording on your way to class, and memorize what you wish to say. What do you do? [[Record the presentation]] [[Nah, too lazy to review it again]] Snapchat sent. [[Start the day]]. Yum. [[Start the day]]. This was such a great idea! You plug in your headphones and leave for [[class.]] You're a few minutes early but you head off to [[class.]] You're so anxious.... [[You decide to text your roommate and apologoze for the mess...you promise to clean it as soon as you return home.]] [[You look down at your phone, and think you don't need to stress him/her out now. You decide to leave a handwritten note on the door.]] And you're off to [[class.]] And you're off to [[class.]] You check the weather app now to see what the temperature is. Your teacher calls on you to start your [[presentation.]] Oh well. Your teacher calls on you to start your [[presentation.]] You obviously made a powerpoint presentation. It's the easiest way for you to communicate your information, and to capture your audience through visuals. You start off doing really well. The class is really engaged and your teacher seems really impressed by the arguments you've raised. But all of a sudden... Oh no... The power seems to blow out on the Smartboard. A lot of what you had to say is on your notecards but all the important quotations from the readings are on the slides. This is the only day you can complete your presentation because there's only one more class period left. What do you do? [[Panic and quit]] [[Quickly think of an alternative]] You can't do it without your Powerpoint presentation. You apologize and [[sit]] down for the next student's presentation. [[well]] The next student had an interactive game prepared for the class. They do not own a persoanl computer; and therefore, could not create a Powerpoint for their presentation. Instead they printed their activity at the library and passed out sheets of paper. How do you feel? [[Envious]] [[You appreciate their efforts and take note for next time]] You're upset that you didn't think to print out the slides. But there's nothing you can do now...and class is [[over.]] Now it's off to the [[health center]] for your eye doctor appointment. Your teacher is even more impressed that you were able to improvise and carry out your presentation despite technical difficulties. Your teacher pulls you aside and congratulates you on an impressive presentation. Class is [[over.]] You visit the eye doctor for a regular check-up. The doctor will just check whether your vision has changed at all. As you sit in the waiting room you think about what you would like to eat for dinner. You... [[Search Pinterest for ideas]] [[Looked through a cookbook yesterday and wrote down ideas]] Class is now [[over.]] The [[doctor]] calls your name. The doctor calls your [[name.]] "Hi I'm Dr. Smith. Nice to meet you. It seems you do have a slight change in vision... How often do you watch tv, use your computer, and/or use your phone?" You respond... [[I don't think it's that often...]] [[Pretty much use one or more throughout the day, everyday]] "______, your eye exam looks great! Looks like your vision hasn't changed at all." You are good to go home. [[The end.]] Thanks for playing! - Ali P. "Really?" The docor says. "[[Think again...]]" You rely heavily on technology to carry out your daily tasks. Try to be more conscious of your use of technology. Reflect on your practices... what do they say about you? [[The end.]] You respond... [[I really don't use them that often.]] The doctor says, "really? Think [[again.]]" You respond... [[Okay, fine.]] You rely heavily on technology to carry out your daily tasks. Try to be more conscious of your use of technology. Reflect on your practices... what do they say about you? [[The end.]]
