Three people stand together, looking to complete their mission. A metal Characters, shrouded in darkness, towers over them.
(set: $story = "Ann")They know they must enter. They've come this far. James is reluctant. Ann is vigilant. Mark is determined.
Whose story shall you follow?
Ann
Mark
James: "G-Guys are you sure about this? I have a bad feeling about this place."
Ann: "James, we've come this far. And a job is a job. Don't worry, we'll be fine."
She says this as though she isn't also creeped out right now.
Mark: "James, stop being a bitch. The job was to find that book and come back. I don't care if that means going into an abandoned ship, I need to know what the book says."
Mark walks Enter into the entrance of the dark behemoth. Ann and James follow.
James: "Stupid ship. Stupid job, stupid book, stupid Mark. Why did I agree to this?"
(set: $story = "Ann")As the three of them enter the ship, they realize just how abandoned it is. The hallway that leads from the entrance seems to be stripped of it's structure.
Metal pillars pierce into the walls and ceiling.
Lights flicker on and off.
Electric wires dangle and spark.
Water drips from above.
The three of them trudge through the booby-trapped hallway, vary of their surroundings.
Ann: "What happened in here?"
Mark: "Some sort of crash landing I suppose? The insides of this ship are throughly destroyed."
James: "I-I don't think this was a crash landing. There seems to be internal tampering here. Maybe some sort of a struggle. Perhaps they were attacked by an outside crew."
Mark finally steps through the wide opening at the end of the hall. It leads them into the Main Deck of the ship. The main deck is massive in height. The ceiling spreads high and wide. The interior, though damaged, seems to have been patched up.
Ann: "There's the main command deck."
Ann points to the huge computer screen and panel that make up the majority of the deck.
As Ann and Mark approach the Computer Message, James inspects a Metal Patch that has been bolted onto the wall .
James: "This, this is recent. Someone has repaired the interior deck, not long from now. They must have been here in the last month //atleast//."
James looks up and admires the interior design of the ship.
James: "This ship has gotten major improvements not long ago. Holy crap. Look at //that//."
Mark: "What is it?"
James: "No wayyyyy. It's the RZ-590 Boost-Engine Adapter. They //have// that? This ship is better than ours! Hey guys, can we Steal? Guys?"
Mark: "James, can you just... Computer Message?"
James reaches for the Booster-Engine thingy whatever the fuck it's called.
Ann: "James. No," she says while still working on the computer.
James: "Computer Message"The computer screen lights up as Ann sits in front of it. Ann manages the big panel underneath, trying to work through the computer's contents.
Ann: "Hmm, seems like there was recent activity on this thing. Files managed and such. I don't have access to them at all though. They seem to be cleverly encrypted."
Mark: "Well can you unencrypt it?"
Ann clicks at the panel keys.
Ann: "Uh no. It doesn't seem possible," she says while still staring at the computer screen.
Mark: "Maybe I should have been the one to man this mission then if you can't do a simple task."
Ann: "Mark I'm gonna need you to tone down that attitude," she replies, still uninterrupted.
Mark walks away towards the artifacts behind him, slightly ticked off.
Ann: "Hmmm, there's a year old Video Entry here."
Ann plays the video entry. James and Mark turn to watch.
`[`Video`]`
A women appears in the video, leaning onto the same panel Ann sits in front of right now. She seems panicked.
"My-my name's Katherine Sulter of the Epsilon Brigade. We-we came here to reclaim some artifact. So-Something went wrong. That artifact. It isn't what we thought it was. Th-there was something about it. It's dangerous. Don't come back for it, JUST TRUST ME DON'T. We don't know what it is. We don't know what that thing is, either. If you can see this, please send help. Please oh god, help us. Please, I-"
A shadowy arm, about as wide as the women's body, appears behind the woman and //pulls// her off screen. We hear the sound of heavy scrapping across the floor, as the women screams in agony.
`[`End Transmission`]`
The screen goes black.
Ann slowly turns to her side and looks at James. He's still staring at the blank screen.
She turns back toward Mark to see even him staring, eyes widened. She returns to looking forward.
James: "What. was. THAT?"
Ann: "I, uh, I-I don't know."
Mark: "It uh, it wa-"
James: "Oh yeah, hot shot you wanna explain what that was? You wanna bless us with your, with your grand wisdom? Huh?" James says as his lips quiver.
(if: $story is "Ann")[Ann: "We, we need to Encounter. Now."]
(else:)[Ann: "We, we need to EncounterMark. Now."]
From one of the wide openings at the side, a voice bellows. It is not the sound of a human.
Out of the shadow enveloped doorway a foot pounds forward onto the main deck. The limb appears to blend in with the darkness, seemingly lifeless. It looks sharp and smooth, yet not metallic. Slowly the creature comes into full view. It's presence seems to envelop the main deck. Lights start flickering around the command deck as it makes its appearance. The creature is huge, atleast three times as large as one human. It's dark smooth skin covers it's whole body, from it's wide chest to its droopy, shadow conceiled face. It's arms reach long towards the ground, almost as tall as the doorway it came from. It's legs look short, as though they blend into it's abdomen as one large mass.
It slowly creeps its head to the side. It's looking at Mark. Its heavy voice //echoes// through the main deck.
Ann stands, to see the creature to her left. She thinks to pull off the gun on her back, but decides against it. She jolts her body to the side, falling into a sprint. She turns to see James as she's beginning to dash. He's standing still, wide faced, in shock.
Ann: "James... JAMES."
She grabs his arm as she runs towards the doorway opposite to the creature. She sees Mark far to the side, running into the doorway that was behind him. The creature leaps from it's side of the deck towards Mark's doorway. It reaches out towards Mark as he runs away from it. It slowly trudges towards Mark, as both the creature and Mark disappear into the abyss.
Ann and James enter into the Black Doorway in front of them, not leaving a second to thought.Ann rushes into the black corridor, dragging James along with her. They run faster and faster, going aimlessly into the darkness.
They both stop at a random point, out of breath.
James: "We have to go back. That //thing//, it's CHASING MARK."
Ann holds James by the shoulders.
Ann: "WE CAN'T! We can't, we can't, we can't. We can't go back."
She slumps as she holds onto him. She looks to the ground.
Ann: "It's too late, he's gone."
They stand there in the deafening Room.James activates his flashlight. They scour the area, looking for anything that gives a glimmer of //hope//. They come to a brightly lit room, a small room with metal blocks that act as counters.
They sit onto the cold floor, beside each other. They rest, leaning on the wall of the tiny gray room.
James: "I knew something was off about this place. I told you guys. I told you!"
Ann: "That you did."
James: "I could be home right now, with my sweet honey-mama, but instead I'm sitting here with //you//, about to be murdered by some weird black flesh demon... No offense by the way."
Ann: "None taken."
James: "If Mark wasn't so fixated with 'knowledge' and 'I need to know everything cause I'm a smart boy blah blah blah', maybe we wouldn't //be// in this situation."
Ann looks directly up towards the ceiling.
Ann: "Mark, don't worry, he doesn't really mean that."
They both Conversation.
James: "So what are you gonna do when we - certainly - survive this predicament?"
Ann: "Uhhh. Go home," Ann nods. "I was supposed to tie the knot after this stupid mission."
James: "You mean you //will// tie the knot after this mission."
Ann: "Right. I'll end it after this one. I should have done that long ago. Should have gotten out of this scavenger profession when I had the chance."
Ann: "This type of work though, it calls you back. It nags you, protrudes your thoughts, invades your livelyhood, ever so slightly nudging you towards //one more extraction// or //one last adventure//. It never ends though, for people like you and me."
James sighs.
James: "I guess you're right."
The room rumbles and shakes as the two hear screaming coming from far off. James and Ann jerk right back up.
James: "That thing is Escape Room for more."After the rumbling and screaming, the room settles down. Everything goes silent. Ann and James don't hear any indication of the beast. Then the lights go out.
Ann: "James!"
James: "I'm here!"
James swiftly turns his flashlight back on. They look around. Again silence.
James: (whispers) "What do we do?"
Ann: (whispers) "Follow me."
Ann treads towards the door of the room. James follows her. Even with the flashlight, they can barely see anything out in the corridor.
A heavy wind swirls through the corridor and into the room, knocking down metal plates and pans with it's strength. The wind is sudden but swift.
The duo still persistent, continue to walk towards the James' Decision. Back in the corridor, James looks in the direction from where they came.
They see nothing. James shines the flashlight into the emptiness. The flashlight barely seems to work, as though it loses it's ability to shine halfway in it's beam. The flashlight is useless.
Ann: "James we have to find an exit somewhere up ahead."
James stands there, contemplating.
James: "No."
Ann: "What?"
James: "No. Give me a gun. I'll hold that bastard off while you find an exit. Atleast one of us will be able to get out of here alive."
Ann: "James, what are you saying? You want to get yourself killed, for probably an act that will result in nothing? You're not the hero of some story."
James: "What can I say, I'm cliche as fuck."
James gazes at Ann. Her look is vacant. She hands him a handgun from a back pocket.
Ann: "Okay. Don't die. If you think he can't be easily killed, just run."
James: "Not gonna give me that gun on your back eh?"
They both smirk.
Ann: "Fine."
Ann pulls off the massive gun on her back and hands it to James. She takes back the small handgun for safe measure.
Ann: "Good luck."
James nods.
Ann Run runs to find an exit. James' Fight stands his ground.
Ann starts to sprint away from the entrance of the corridor. She looks back to see James still standing there, determined to put up a fight. She hopes he'll survive.
Ann runs on and on. She bolts past several empty rooms, oneS she can't even make out in the dark. She finds some bright-lit rooms on the way, but they also contain nothing.
Her sprint turns into a jog, as she continues to deplete her feeling of hope.
Finally, she see ahead of her a Final Room. James stands in the dark corridor. He imagines himself standing in a dark alleyway, confronting an evil villan in his quest to find some stupid book. It's... pretty close to what he's doing now.
James stands there with his flashlight and gun in hand, waiting for the creature. He hears muffled sounds out in the distance. Deep, heavy sounds. As he waits, the sounds become more and more clear. The ground starts to shake under him as he can hear more clearly the bellow of the beast. The deep-toned voice resonates through the corridor, beckoning him to run.
He won't though.
He readies his gun. James realizes that he isn't the greatest shot, but also that his best bet is to shoot for the creature's head. The head wasn't visible before, so he'll have to get fairly close to see it now.
The shaking becomes more intense, to the point where James struggles to stand straight. He shines his flashlight forward unwavered.
The creature stands infront of him. It towers over him. Its body alone is able to cover his height, its arms almost as long as his whole self.
Knocked Out
Throw at Creature
Back into the Room James runs towards the creature, trying to attack it head on. He aims his gun forward and fires a barrage of bullets at the creature's chest. It doesn't seem to faze the creature.
The creature just stands there, looking down at him.
James, now under the creature, decides to gaze up at the massive black mass and aim for its head.
He shoots and hits his mark!
The creature slowly raises its arm and then swings it toward James.
James goes flying, hitting the wall and getting Wake up James!. James run to the chairs on the side of the corridor. He puts the gun temporarily on his back. He grabs one of the chairs, and //swings// it at the beast.
The chair crashes into the creature's head and shatters, leaving the creature unfazed.
The creature stretches its arm all the way to James, successfully grabbing and throwing him across the corridor, and Wake up James!. James runs into the gray room from whence he came.
He slams the door closed and leans on it with all his weight.
He hears the creature move outside. He sighs a breath of relief.
After a few seconds of calm, James is knocked back as the creature shatters the door to its foundation, leaving James Wake up James! on the room floor.James wakes up on the floor. His head is pounding profusely. He touches his head to feel blood on his scalp.
He doesn't have time to panic.
Still in a slight daze, James gets up and begins to Arrives at End in the direction Ann and now the Creature, went. James stands at the entrance of the yellow-tinted room where Ann resides. The creature is towering over her.
James: "Hasta la vista, ba-"
Ann: "WAIT! James, wait!"
Ann stands and beckons to James.
James: "What are you saying?"
Ann: "Trust me."
James throws the big gun to Ann. He stoops to the floor in pain.
The creature is still where it stood, enveloping the room, dwarfing Ann with it's size.
Creature: "AAAAAAANNNNNNNNNNN, HEEEEEEELLLLLLLPPPPPP MMMMMMMMMMMEEEEEEEEEEEEEE"
The creature's voice is almost impossible to make out. Yet, the two can hear it's plea.
Creature: "AAAAAAAAANNNNNNN, JJJJJJJJAAAAAAMMMMMMMMEEEEEEEEEESSSSSS."
The creature gently raises it's hand to Ann. Ann jitters back. The creature //grabs// the end of her gun.
James: "What is it-"
The creature leans down towards Ann and holds the end of the gun to its head.
Creature: "HHHHHHHHHHHHEEEEEEEEEEELLLLLLLLPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP," //cries// the beast.
It's low octane voice violently shaking the room and the people in it.
Yet, Ann stands, no longer shaking. James looks up to her.
Ann: "What ARE you? //Who// are you?"
The creature does not respond. It has long forgetten it's name.
Ann looks to James. He nods.
Ann takes a deep breath.
Ann shoots the beast.
START
As Ann gets closer and closer to the light, she begans to make out a room. A dimly light room, about as wide as the corridor.
It's at the end of the hall.
Ann scours the room, searching for some type of an exit. Behind the appliances, hidden on the floor, up on the ceiling.
Something, something, just anything. Anything to make James' sacrifice worthwhile.
Defeated, she tumbles onto the beige-tinted floor of the room.
Ann: "It's over."
She twidles her gun in her hand, jerking it more and more, until she whips it across the room.
Ann: "FUCK THIS."
She sits there, now silent, waiting for her The Beast Arrives.
As she feels the trembling produced by the creature, she looks up to see it off in the distance.
She can make out the black smooth skin of the thing, the slow, impactful steps it takes, and the deep voice that it projects, as it comes forward.
The beast arrives at the rim of the yellow-tinted room. It looks down at Ann, who is sitting patiently on the floor.
Ann reaches down to her pocket. She's not going to just give up without a fight.
Her gun's not there.
Ann quickly //dives// to the side of the room where she threw her gun, and picks it up. The creature moves forward, slowly but surely into the room.
Ann stands up in defiance of the beast. She cocks her gun.
She shoots.
It's stuck.
She Reload.The beast moves closer.
Ann reloads the gun. She smacks it on the side several times.
Ann: "Come on, come on. Work!"
She shoots the gun.
It still doesn't budge.
She Reload2 again. She pulls back the gun's cock one more time. She slams it forward with all her might. She's breathing heavily. The beast is inching near her.
She aims the gun forward to the belly of the beast.
Fail
Final Confront
Final ConfrontAnn steps backwards, truely afraid, stumbling into the appliances that hang from the walls.
The creature looks down on her. She can see it's face now.
She's shaking with fear. She's never seen anything like this //thing//. She lived her whole life to die like this. The longing for more adventure and discovery led her to this demise. It's her fault.
The creature roars. Now close, Ann can barely make out its words.
Creature: "AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANNNNNNNNNN
NNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN"
It's voice is deafening.
Creature: "AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
AAANNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN"
Ann: "How does it, how does it know my name?"
Creature: "AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN"
Ann peaks behind the creature, to see Arrives at End trudge in, holding up the gun with one hand, and his blooded side with another.James: "G-Guys are you sure about this? I have a bad feeling about this place."
Ann: "James, we've come this far. And a job is a job. Don't worry, we'll be fine."
She says this as though she isn't also creeped out right now.
Mark: "James, stop being a bitch. The job was to find that book and come back. I don't care if that means going into an abandoned ship, I need to know what the book says."
Mark walks Enter into the entrance of the dark behemoth. Ann and James follow.
James: "Stupid ship. Stupid job, stupid book, stupid Mark. Why did I agree to this?"
(set: $story = "Mark")
Mark looks to where the sound came from. He gazes at the thing. He doesn't understand. He sees Ann in the corner of his eye beginning to run. They're too far from here. Mark knows he doesn't have many options.
Mark only sees darkness in the entrance that was just behind him. But it's the only logical choice based on the situation as hand. He turns and runs into the abyss.
As he bolts, he hears the cry of the monster.
He doesn't Mark Runs.Mark scurries into the darkness of the corridor. His curiosity gets the best of him as he decides to look back at that //thing//.
All he sees is a black lifeless mass heading towards him, slowly but surely. He can barely make out it's face. He can also hear it's bone-chillingly deep voice, as it rattles the interior the ship.
Mark runs and runs, until the beast doesn't seem to be in sight. He comes to a room, with a blinding light shining out of it.
He Machine. As Mark enters the room, his eyes adjust to the brightness, letting him clearly see the interior.
The room is a small one. But it looks beautiful to Mark's eyes. Its design looks other-worldly, it seems several times more advanced than anything he's seen. For some reason, he forgots he must flee from the black lifeless //demon// that almost killed him.
Instead, he must learn what this room is.
The room contains shining lights and bright flashing LEDs, and panels made of a shiny material unknown to Mark's intellect. It calls to his curiosity.
Mark: "What, what is this?" he spits out, still exhausted.
Mark: "It's magnificent. It's beautiful. It's unique"
Mark: "This will my //discovery//. People will see what I have found, and they will think I'm brilliant! This must be significant, that beast seems to be guarding it!"
Just as Mark says this, he feels yet again the deep bellow of the black creature. He looks to the door to see a hand slowly latch out, and grasp at the entrance. The beast's voice is unbearably loud, throwing Mark off his balance with just its resonance.
Mark darts around the room, looking for some sort of device that'll help him out. He sees buttons upon buttons on the panels, and smashes at all of them in his panic.
The buttons successfully activate some sort of //fail safe//. The room rumbles and shakes, causing Mark to fall to the shiny white floor. Mark looks back to see the door of the room SLAM SHUT, as a swift wind blows out the hand of the beast and forces the door shut.
The room shakes more and more violently until Mark gets hit unconscious.
Mark Wake.
Mark wakes up to find the room at silence. He gets up to see all the flashing lights have turned off and the room shines less bright.
He looks at the panels to see confusing numbers on them.
"01121975 127"
Still in a daze, he ignores them.
He leans out to see that the beast is gone. Better yet, it's morning now! He walks outside, hoping to find Ann and James safe in the main deck.
Returning to the main deck, he finds the place to look oddly //different//. The patches on the wall are gone, replaced by new wall panels all together. The deck doesn't seem as much of a mess. Light shines into the ship, disguising it as someplace entirely different from the one he entered a while back.
Most of all, there is no creature in sight.
Mark: "This is confusing. Have I been asleep so long that things changed this drastically? I don't get it."
Confusion isn't a state of mind Mark can stand being in for long.
Mark approaches the Back Again.Mark sits down in front of the computer. He feels a sense of pride, sitting where Ann once sat. He has full control of this mission now.
Mark activates the computer, it feels easy to do so this time. Maybe he just knows how. He looks through the entries in the computer, hoping to find one from Ann, or James.
He finds no entries.
That makes no sense. There were just several of them there a while back. Hell, the video entry that he watched with his //own eyes// is now gone?
Could someone have deleted it? That doesn't seem likely. What is it then?
As he goes to try to contact someone in this star-system, he notices something in the bottom corner of the computer.
The date.
"01/12/1975"
Panic. Mark: "H-How is this-" the situation doesn't compute. "Is it the computer? No it can't be. All of this can't be a coincidence anyways."
Mark: "Was it that room? That //room// transported me //back in time//?"
Mark sits in silence. It finally sinks in.
Mark: "I found a fucking time machine! I found a time machine. ME! What in the name of-"
Mark yelps with excitement. He has discovered the device that will bring about the turn of the century. It means all he could have wanted. Almost.
Mark: "But wait, it's before 2002, this means..."
What does it mean? Does it mean he can safely manuvear the ship and get to safety? Does it mean he can use the machine to go back to his 'friends' and save them? Does it mean endless amounts of money and fame? No.
Mark: "Book"Mark: "The book contains everything that I would ever want to know. It holds the secrets to the universe, it holds the history of our world, the origins of life, the knowledge of everything that ever was."
The ability to play God.
Mark: "I don't need those filthy scavengers now, I have it. It should be here, anywhere."
Marks dashes across the main deck, scouring every bookcase, every shelf, every counter, every corner, every crack of every wall, everywhere. He turns the place upside down, its no longer in pristine shape.
He comes back to the main command deck to find the book slipped behind the panel.
Mark: "Hah, right where an ordinary person wouldn't even think to look."
Mark sits down and tightly grasps the book in his hands. He has waited long for this. His body shakes in anticipation. He Crazy Boy. Light SHINES out of the book, so bright that it blinds Mark as he stares into it.
The light //shoves// Mark's head back, as though its a tangible force of nature.
Mark shakes violently, his head leaned up towards the sky in an almost unhuman nature. His body vibrates, pulsating back and forth, as he is filled to the brim with //something//.
Mark gets knocked out of his chair and slams onto the floor, all his individual muscles convulsing more and more. The book lays on the ground still open, light still darting out of its pages so that no one else can truly //see// what is contained inside.
Mark comes to a sudden stop. After a moment, he gets up. He stands up straight. He stretches. He feels great. No, better than great. He feels inhuman, like he can do anything he desires.
Mark: "I-I-I get it now. I get it all now. I see it, I hear it, I feel it. I know it all. I know everything."
Mark: "I have acquired it. I have gained what no other man has, nay, what anyone has ever had."
Mark: "I feel it coursing through my veins. IT IS MAGNIFICIENT."
Mark stares down at his own two hands. He understands it now. He got what he wanted.
As he looks at himself, he notices a black shade crawling onto his skin. It's Body.Mark: "I-I, what? What does this, WHAT IS THIS?!?"
As he screams out to the abyss, his voice deepens. He falls to the floor, onto his knees, looking down at his elongating arms.
His back suddenly jerks outward, widening and growing in size. He can hear his spine crack and crush together, elongating itself. He feels his throat get hoarse, his voice become //dark//.
Mark: "THIIIISSSS CAAAN'T BE HAPPENNNINNGGGG. ITTTTT HURTS SOO
MUUUUCCHHHH."
Marks feels his legs and feet stretch under him. His bones crackle and hiss as they are formed and reformed, over and over and over and over, till they are //perfect//. His arms extend and widen to the perfect size, his ribs retract and broaden, as to make him more physically capable. His body is shaping him, all for his benefit.
He should be Transformation .
Mark speaks, his voice now a low pitch sound he no longer recognizes.
Mark: "I DIDN'T WAANTT THIS. I DDDIIDN'TT WANTTT THIS! IT WAS NOT MMY FAULT."
MARK: "It was not my fault."
Mark's body continues to shape and reshape. It continues to mold itself into what the universe thinks is best. Mark has become what he has seeked. The universe congratulates him.
MARK: "End"
Mark's skin has become wholly dark and empty. It has become smooth and void of life. His arms expand down to his toes, his wide body enveloping the main deck. His face is shrouded in black, invisible to anyone from far. His fingers so wide and powerful, they would demolish the computer panel were he to touch it. His voice an unrecognizable tone, too deep for even his friends to know who he is.
He has become it.
CREATURE: "I DIDN'T MEAN IT TO BE THIS WAYY. TAKEE IT BAACCKKK. PLEEASSEEE. TAKEE IT BAACKKK. I DOONNNN'TT WANNTTT THISSS."
