<strong>Condoms</strong>
-Also known as the ‘male condom.’
-Condoms are most popular and widely available form of birth control and STI prevention.
-A condom is a thin sheath worn over the penis to prevent pregnancy and the transmission of STIs.
-Condoms are typically made out of latex. Non-latex condoms are available, but might not be as available as latex condoms.
-Condoms can be used for several types of sexual intercourse: penis in anus, penis in mouth, and penis in vagina.
-They have a failure rate of 2% when used perfectly and a failure rate of 18% with imperfect use.
-Condoms prevent pregnancy and STI transmission by collecting sexual fluids, such as pre-cum and semen, from the penis and stopping them from entering the anus, mouth, or vagina.
<strong>How to use a condom:</strong>
Step 1: Gently open the condom packaging. Do not use scissors, your teeth, or any sharp objects to open the packaging. These could puncture or rip the condom, rendering it useless.
Step 2: Place the rolled up condom over the head of the erect penis. Make sure to check that the condom is situated so that it can go onto the penis.
Step 3: Carefully pinch the tip of the condom allowing for a half inch of space between the tip of the condom and the head.
Step 4: While still holding the tip of the condom, slowly unroll the condom down to the base of the penis.
After ejaculation or sexual intercourse, hold on to the bottom of the condom where it meets the base of the penis. While the penis is still erect, carefully withdraw or ‘pull out.’ Once the penis is withdrawn, pull the condom off and throw it away in the trash.

<strong>Femidoms</strong>
-Also know as the ‘female condom.’
-A Femidom is a non-latex pouch that is inserted into the vagina.
-Femidoms are similar to condoms as they prevent sexual fluids from the penis to enter the vagina.
-Femidoms are almost exclusively used for penis in vagina sexual intercourse, but can be used for penis is anus sex if needed.
-Femidoms have a failure rate of 5% with perfect use and a failure rate of 21% with imperfect use.
-Femidoms are not a widely available in stores as condoms, but can be purchased through online retailers.
<strong>How to use a femidom:</strong>
Step 1: Gently open the femidom packaging. Do not use scissors, your teeth, or any sharp objects to open the packaging. These could puncture or rip the femidom, rendering it useless
Step 2: Unravel the femidom and squeeze the sides of the femidom’s inner circle together.
Step 3: Insert the inner ring of the femidom in the vagina. Use your fingers to gradually push the inner ring further into the vagina till it reaches the cervix. Once the inner ring reaches the cervix, it should open up.
Step 4: Once the inner ring has opened up, make sure the outer ring is in place. The outer ring should hang 1 inch out of the vaginal opening.
After sexual intercourse, squeeze the outer ring together. Carefully pull the femidom out and throw it away in the trash.

<strong>Dental Dams</strong>
-A dental dam is a latex sheet used to protect the mouth and throat during oral sex.
-They can be used to cover the vulva or the anus.
-Dental dams are recommended for preventing STI transmission during oral sex.
-As long as the dental dam does not rip/tear or the user does not accidentally flip the dental dam around, it can be highly effective for preventing STI transmission.
-Dental dams are not widely available in stores, but can be purchased through online retailers.
-If a dental dam is not available, [[a condom with the tip cut off and cut up the side can be used instead.]]
<strong>How to use a dental dam:</strong>
Step 1: Gently open the dental dam packaging.
Step 2: Unfold the dental dam.
Step 3: Stretch out the dental dam and position it over the anus or vulva.
Be careful not to confuse which side is the anus/vulva side and the mouth side. After sexual contact, remove the dental dam from the skin and throw it away in the trash.

-The hormonal IUD prevents pregnancy by releasing the hormone progestin that prevents the ovaries from releasing eggs. By keeping the eggs in the ovaries they do not come in contact with sperm.

<strong>Cervical Cap</strong>
-A cervical cap is a small silicone cup that is inserted into the vagina to prevent pregnancy.
-The cervical cap prevents pregnancy by blocking the cervix and preventing sperm from entering the uterus.
-For this method you must use [[Spermicide]] in addition to the cervical cap for it to be effective.
-After each instance of sexual intercourse you should check to make sure that the cervical cap is still in place. The cervical cap can stay in place for up to six hours.
-If you have never given birth vaginally or been pregnant the cervical cap has a failure rate of 14%. If you have given birth vaginally or have been pregnant then the rate of failure increases to 29%.
<strong>How to use a cervical cap:</strong>
Step 1: Put one-quarter teaspoon of spermicide in the dome of the cervical cap and spread a thin layer on the brim. Put one-half teaspoon in the folded area between the brim and the dome.
Step 2: Put your index and middle fingers in your vagina to locate your cervix. That way, you will know where to place the cap.
Step 3: Separate the labia with one hand and squeeze the rim of the cap together with the other hand. Slide the cervical cap dome-side down into the vagina, with the long brim entering first
Step 4: Push down toward the anus and then up and onto the cervix. Make sure the cervix is completely covered. (It is easier to insert before you are sexually aroused.)
To remove the cervical cap: Squat down. Grip the removal strap and rotate the cervical cap. Push on the dome with your finger to break the suction. Hook your finger under the removal strap and pull the cap out.

<strong>Spermicide</strong>
-Spermicide is a chemical birth control that is inserted into the vagina before penis in vagina sex.
-Spermicide works by blocking off the cervix and by immobilizing the sperm so that it cannot fertilize the egg.
-Spermicide is not very effective on its own. With perfect use it has a failure rate of 15%. With imperfect use it has a failure rate of 29%. Most health officials suggest using spermicide with another birth control method.
-Some people who use spermicide might have an allergic reaction to this product or suffer from skin irritation.

Step 2: Place the rolled up condom over the top of the toy.
Step 3: Slowly unroll the condom down to the length of the toy.
After sexual intercourse, make sure to remove the condom and clean the toy. Do not reuse the condom.
