It's 10:47 PM on Halloween night.

Tommy, a 13 year-old boy dressed in his regular street clothes and his baseball cap, walks through the last bit of forest and comes upon the rusted iron gate that belongs to the old abandoned mansion. He stares at it for a moment and takes in the creepy feel that it gives off. He doesn't want to be here, but he made a bet with his friends last Halloween.

Flashback:
“Next year, lets all go to the abandoned mansion in the woods and play a game,” said Jeff.

“Sounds like fun. I'm down,” Rafiq approved.

“But what kind of game?” asked Sara.

“How about ultimate hide-n-seek?” Chuck suggested.

“Oh yeah! That sounds like fun! We should do it!” chanted Michelle. - End of flashback.

Why did Tommy agree too? He kept asking himself that question, while walking towards his awaiting friends at the gate.

“Good, now everybody's here,” Chuck announces. “Okay. Now the only fair way I thought of picking who's gonna be it is if we pull straws. Whoever gets the short one loses and is the seeker.”

Everyone agrees to Chuck's plan, and one buy one they all pull a straw.
