It's heavy, and getting it over is a bit of a chore, but you manage and rest it beside your friend on the table.\n\nOpening the bag reveals soft, red sand. Grabbing a handful makes it feel as light as air, and spreading it over her body has it fall like dust. "Being back here is like being behind a steam engine. There's knobs and switches that go back as far as the very first thought your friend ever had, to the first time she learned how to swim, to different vacations, everything is still preserved in her brain tissue like amber. I can access all of it."\n\n"What amazes me is there is something she never told you about. Something she kept locked away, hidden deep down under lock and key, never allowing it to see the light of day. You guys were best friends, right? That's classified. Us lowly spirits aren't allowed to know specifics, less we blow the whole thing to one of you lot."\n\n"That's the tricky part of necromancy, isn't it. How do you handle all this information, all this power? Should you sell your skills to the army, reading dead enemies of war for secrets? They'd just laugh at you and lock you up as a crazy person, if they still do that.\n\n"Should you go to the families of people who have died too young, and get them to extract their final goodbyes from their dead sons and daughters? A dark practice but I'm sure there are spirits out there that, when summoned, would go along with it. We're not all ghouls.\n\n"Or, here's a better option no necromancer ever seems to take. Give it all up. Burn this hut to the ground. Walk away from all this, and get back to living your life. What was this worth, other than creeping yourself out? Just walk away.\n\n"As for me, I think my time here is done. I hope we don't meet again, but if we do, well, we'll see then, won't we?"\n\nThe eyes of your friend close for a moment, and when they open they show that whatever force was haunting them had gone.\n\nWhat do you want to do now?\n\n* <<choice "Bury the body in the forest.">>\n* <<choice "Return the body to the morgue in the city.">>\n* <<choice "Burn the hut down with the body in it.">>

"I'm not a liar, I can prove it. That scar on your hand? When you cut yourself preparing carrots. Not good enough for you? I know your childhood house, the one with the weird looking tree out front. If that's not enough proof, I don't know what is.\n\n<<display 'You were a jerk.'>>

You go to the bookshelf and reach for the vase on the top shelf. It is quite heavy, and bringing it over to her body is a bit difficult, but you manage.\n\nUnscrewing the top, you go for a ladle and whisk trails of golden-honey like oil over the top of her body. \n\nTime grows short and the window to the spirit world closes soon, or so say the books. You insert the key and unlock the trunk, doing so opens it. The inside of your car smells like formaldehyde and potpourri.\n\nYou bring the cart up against the side of the trunk. The light of the candles does little to help illuminate the room, only bringing to light the creatures that float in the jars of formaldehyde frozen in their death throws, just like you planned them to.\n\nYour workshop, built from mud and straw, is a good ten feet long, and ten feet wide. Lining the walls are bookshelves and chest of drawers full of different spices, herbs, and books of forgotten secrets in languages of the dead. This is your hot spot, the place where the magic happens, your escape from the mundane.\n\nIn the middle of the room is a table, and on it is the fresh corpse of your best friend. Pouring the mix into the thermos is easy enough. You lock the top and give the container a few good shakes.\n\nAfter letting it rest for a few moments, you unscrew it. The cafe is bright and sunny, as people chatter with excitement all around you. Students and business-types work on their laptops, pushing up their dark glasses to get a better view of their screens. Someone says they don't like their coffee, and should have gone for a smoothie instead.\n\nThe cars drive by past the window. You press your hands together and say the dark words you have practiced so many times. Saying them right is critical, for one wrong slip of the tongue can cause your own soul to be sucked into the void.\n\n"Rama\n"Nara\n"Kara\n"Ruk."\n\nBetween your finger tips surge energy, so violent and twisted that it begins to burn your skin, peeling away at your own flesh.\n\nYou press your hands down onto the body of your friend, and with a surge the power flows into her, jolting her head from left to right.\n\nAll is still as beads of sweat drip from your forehead. You find your hands are quite cold now.\n\n* <<choice "Prod the body.">>\n* <<choice "Wait and see what happens.">>
Your friend's eyelids crawl open, raising like a curtain on a theater. The pupils, now greyed, scan around the room before resting on you.\n\nIt is not your friend. Somewhere beyond the eyes, deep within, is a little bit of brimstone, burning slightly. Her mouth unevens itself.\n\n"Well-Well, a necromancer. Hadn't seen one of you folk in at least five hundred years. I thought it was a completely destroyed and forgotten art? But I see you have yourself quite the collection. I remember that big one over there, I'm in like half of it. You probably can't read it, but it says quite plainly, "The Dangers of Necromancy, and why it should never have existed in the first place."\n\nThe voice is raspy, coming from somewhere near your friend's stomach. But it is hers, though more jolty. A quick pause after every few words.\n\n* <<choice "Say: So are you my friend?">>\n* <<choice "Say: I take it you're not my friend.">>\n* <<choice "Say: Just what are you?">>\n* <<choice "Say nothing at all.">>
You sink your shovel into your dirt pile, a good heavy bit, and raise it over the grave.\n\n* <<choice "Dump the heavy bit onto your friend.">>
You keep pushing the cart out into the forest, using your smart-phone for lighting.\n\nAfter a getting a fair amount of distance away from the hut, you come to a nice spot between a bunch of crawling bushes, where she'd never be found. \n\nYou sink your shovel into the ground and begin to dig. After a good ammount of it, you have yourself a nice hole.\n\n<<display "Burial.">>
Your friend's right arm begins to curl upward as rigor mortis sets in. The thing inside her looks down at it, then back at you.\n\n"Don't be like that. What did you expect in the first place? That she would actually come back to her body, and that you could live life with that knowledge, all willy-nilly like that's the right thing to be done? What are you, sick in the head? You're ridiculous. And besides, there's something I know that you don't know."\n\n<<display 'Let the spirit continue.'>>
"What's more is, I can see how she really thought about all your little acts throughout your life. You were the show off, weren't you? Always successful, always flaunting your progress right in front of her, even though you knew she was struggling. Always just lagging behind because she was too nice, or not forceful enough. And yet she smiled for you, encouraged you, while you gave nothing back.\n\n"To be honest, I'm not even sure why you two were friends in the first place. There's no reason in here why she should have ever liked you, less a reason for her to fall in love with you. It doesn't make much sense, but there's enough human songs about how love is this mysterious power, and being a strange entity myself, I can understand it's control. It's just a little odd, is all."\n\nThe spirit grows quiet.\n\n"So what do you want to do now, oh master?"\n\n* <<choice "Say: There's no way of bringing her back at all?">>\n* <<choice "Say: What am I supposed to do from here on?">>\n* <<choice "Purge the spirit from the body.">>\n* <<choice "Don't say a single word.">>

Rats, squirrels, birds, those were the easy ones. All it takes is a little Rumric Weed with some Butterfly dust to get those crawling about again, and if you wanted them under your control all you had to do was throw in some essence of frog legs, because all good spells require frog legs.\n\nBut this thing it was different. You had been training in the shadows for years for this moment. A human corpse, waiting to be brought back from whatever afterlife she had found herself in. She had died so young, so unfairly. This was you doing the right thing, rescuing your friend from the grasp of death itself.\n\nThe wind blows against the straw of the house.\n\n* <<choice "Turn on a fire.">>\n* <<choice "Begin with a cup of tea.">>\n* <<choice "Start the process.">>

The spirit shakes the head back and forth.\n\n"You have to want to know. It's a big, juicy secret. Full of insight, amazement, astounding facts that you never knew about her. No one in their right mind would not have at least a little bit of curiosity, and this will be your only chance to ever find it out.\n\nWhat's better, going through life forever not knowing just what it was? The question lingering in your mind until the day you die and some other necromancer brings you back, where I show my face again and then tell him instead?
