It's a regular day in your SOCY230 lecture. You walk in about a minute and a half late grasping for air after rushing from the diner. You find one of the last seats in the back of the hall so you don't disturb lecture. You take notes in class and one of your boys hits you up trying to see what the move is for the night.
The day continues on and your friends ask if you want to go out. [[Sleep]] is an option, but you could possibly have [[the time of your life]]. C'mon Trey you really don't what to chill?
You go home, but you don't go to sleep. You do your work. You go on Twitter, Instagram, Tumblr and scroll through Facebook to see what people are up to.
You see those faces. The faces of Black people, the faces of beings all over the country victims because of the color of their skin.
You look to your skin. You're staying in. You're doing work. But that doesn't matter.
In the eyes of society, you are a black man. A threat. A danger to everyone else. You go about your day, but as a black man you are always watched.
You start getting ready, throw on your best fit.
Actually no, the ladies think you might try too hard. You pick a chill fit, a hoodie and some jeans.
But man whatever, [[TURN UP! |lighter]] It's Friday, why not reward yourself for the week? You start to pregame. First shot got you feelin' a bit warm, the second has you ready to pull some ladies. [[Another one]], why not?
Or sleep, and [[give up another collge night |Sleep]]?
Wow you're really feeling good tonight. Man your girl just texted you, it's about to be a good night.
You start to spit game. You're enjoying the night with your boys. [[A little smoking here, a little sip there |lighter]]. You trying to get some [[food]] or you trying to [[dip |Sleep]] ?
Damn what's the cheapest thing around? Not sure if you're up for McDonalds. Maybe just some 7-Eleven candy will do. Oh yea, you have to fill up your tank any way.
Pick up a [[lighter]] on the way.
Homie said pick him up, and come through the party. [[Why not?]] [[Sleep |Sleep]] doesn't exist in college.
Way to embrace stereotypes! Trying to prove society wrong? LOL good one. Could be in college but you're still colored.
Drugs? Not suprised.
Irresponsible? That's you.
Keep enforcing what society thinks. Good job, embrace the REAL you.
Riding down the street.
Feeling the wind.
Feeling free.
For once, it feels like you're [[FREE]].
No worries. Just happy to be liberated.
You look up and the sirens go off. A tail late? FORREAL?!
Just [[take the ticket man]], don't [[complain]].
LOL GOOD ONE!
No warning but it's okay. It's a $75 ticket. Looks like you're entire paycheck will go to this.
You call Mom to tell her what happens. She says it's okay, she'll pay the ticket. As long as you're okay, everything is fine.
Back to the [[party]] it is.
Did you forget what color your skin is? C'mon, you can't do that.
You can't complain.
You have no voice.
You have no power.
No rights.
You see your girl from the other side of the room.
You approach her, spit that game in person.
WOW did that guy just bump into your girl like that?
[[Say something |complain]].
[[Let it slide]].
You're vibing.
The right song.
The right people.
Such a great time.
Time to go to go [[home |Sleep]]. But you wanna [[spend time]] with your girl.
You begin to drive her home. She kisses you and thanks you for dropping her off.
You ride [[back |Sleep]] thinking of the night.
You're friend calls, he's stuck at the party. To the [[rescue]] you go.
Whats that in the distance?
Really? Sirens again. [[What this time? |complain]]
[[You |complain]] cannot [[escape |FREE]].
They're everywhere. [[It's |lighter]] everywhere.
[[Be smart |Sleep]]. Or [[be brave]].
Again for a tail light. You show the warning. But the tone.
[[Apparently you have an attitude |lighter]].
[[You look like a thug |lighter]].
You [[try |complain]] to [[stand up |FREE]].
You [[give up]].
A $75 ticket. A brutal beating for trying to stand up for yourself.
You go home. Scroll through Twitter, Instagram, Facebook and suddenly you are the face. You are the victim of society. The stereotypes that you cannot erase. You have been profiled. The system has failed you. The system was not made for you.
Another victim. Another worried mother. Another unjustified action. When will you win? When will WE win?
