This is a story of two women, Olha Pavliuk and her daughter Ludmila.
From aristocratic beginnings in Western Ukraine to a simpler life on the Canadian prairies
they shared a passion for the latest fashion trends.
Olha and Ludmilla loved to design and create their own wardrobes,
and proudly wore their cultural identity on their sleeves (in some cases quite literally).

C. 1934 Ludmila & Olha
This was Olha’s Favourite Promenade Dress
In 1934, Olha created a linen dress which featured a colourful embroidered collar,
matching pockets, and a placket that covered the snaps at the nape of the neck.
Unique, brown, triangular buttons and a belt embellished the outfit.
This dress is now in a [[special Collection]] at the University of Alberta.

They moved in with Judge Anton and Olha, and briefly enjoyed the lives of elite socialites in Lviv, Ukraine.
Unfortunately, shortly after their wedding they were forced to flee their homeland, just ahead of the Soviet invasion.
The had very little room for personal belonging, but Olha managed to take her favourite promenade dress and a few embroidered blouses.
