The sight from the northern wall was eerie: on the left were snowy mountains painted a deep violet by the fading rays of Terun; on the right it was already dark, the hills a solid shadow; ahead was the kingdom, the occasional village fire or window alight like whisps, and ahead of that, the coast, creeping closer the darker it got. The sea made Ker Addem uneasy in bright daylight. They tried not to look at it at all on their patrols.\n\n Wind wailed through the parapets, cracking the magenta banners of the King's house. His sister, now chatting amiably about the market with Ker Addem, undoubtedly didn't care either way.
