Points: $pointsGrowing up, you were known as nothing more than the child of a local farmer. You were respected by those you met for your kindness and bravery, but you were nothing special where you came from. The life of a farmer’s child was dull and inconsequential. You had always wanted something more. One day, you walk outside and discover that Soteria, goddess of safety and salvation, is waiting for you. Soteria explains to you that she is here to summon you for the most dangerous of missions. She has heard rumors of the brave farmer’s child and needs your help on a treacherous mission.

You decide that saving the captain is the brave and honorable choice, so you jump in the water to save him. The current is strong, but you know that you can do this. You make your way over to him, and a member of your crew quickly throws you a rope. With the rope wrapped around both you and the captain, your crew quickly pulls you both to safety.
You have $s[$points]!!
[[Next|Obstacle 3]]As your men fight the Scylla, the monster sees that the captain has fallen overboard. The beast is distracted long enough for one of your bravest men, Orion, to strike it. Orion’s hit shocks the beast, and it decides to back away from the ship and move onto the captain. As you sail farther down the strait, you hear the agonizing screams of the man that you could have saved.
[[Next|Finish 2]]
With your first obstacle here and gone, you now feel much more confident in your abilities. You have made it through your first time of strife as a leader. Days begin to pass and you have not faced any more challenges. Suddenly, Soteria appears on your ship. She explains that your next obstacle is soon to arise. The next day, you see that your ship is coming up on a narrow strait.
[[Next|Journey 4]]Suddenly, you spy a small, lonely island. You know that the flying sandals are your only hope. You slip them on and launch yourself into the air. As you fly farther from the ship and closer to the island, you see that the ship has begun to sink. The damage from the storm was too severe for a standard ship to bear. Upon landing on the island, you find that is deserted. You realize that you are alone and, because you made the selfish decision, will be doomed to spend the rest of your days on this forsaken island in the middle of the sea.
You lost $r[25 points]!!

Do you wish to continue? [[Yes|Continue 1]] [[No|The End]]Oh no! Your first obstacle has come! A member of your crew spots an ominous storm on the horizon. As the seconds tick by, the storm grows larger and larger. The ship given to you by Soteria is nice, but it is not enough to survive the storm that lies ahead. Your captain cries down, “she won’t make it!”, and in this moment, you know that accepting the gift from Hermes was the wrong decision.

[[Next|Finish 1]]As you get back aboard the ship, the captain resumes his place behind the wheel of the ship and quickly steers you out of reach of the Scylla. As you continue down the strait, you begin to approach the whirlpools of the Charybdis. The whirlpools grow larger and larger by the second, but thankfully, you have an experienced, well-prepared captain behind the wheel. He expertly guides you and the crew through some of the roughest waters known to man, and, while it was not without struggle, you and the men have made it through the strait safely.
[[Next|Obstacle 3 1]]The farther down the strait you sail, the more you regret leaving the captain behind. You quickly understand exactly what you are about to encounter. The whirlpools of the Charybdis are growing larger and larger by the second. You search your crew for an experienced captain and find that there are none. You realize that both you and your crew are doomed. You take the wheel of the ship, but it is hopeless. The first whirlpool approaches and your ship goes down almost immediately. Without a captain, the whirlpools of the Charybdis were your doom.

With everyone relaxed and their bellies filled, you feel at peace for the first time since your journey began. Everyone feels as though they can let their guard down. You walk up behind Empusa and being expressing your immense gratitude for the joy she has brought to you and your crew. You feel refreshed and prepared for the battle ahead.
[[Next|Finish 3]]You have chosen the shields. Every person aboard your ship, other than you, will be given an enchanted shield. As you continue along on your journey, you begin to see ripples far off in the ocean. Suddenly, a creature launches out of the water. As it rapidly makes its way towards the ship, the captain recognizes it. He tells you that this beast is known as the Hydra. The tales of the Hydra say that she is a water monster with venom so dangerous that even her breath can kill a man. Her limbs regenerate, and every time that one of her heads is severed, two more grow in its place.
[[Next|Continue 4 1]]She turns to face you, and you see that the rumors your men have heard are true. The Empusa is the creature that they feared! With her sharp teeth and fiery hair, she destroys your men one by one. You have failed your mission, and the Empusa was your doom.

[[Works Cited|Works Cited]]Soteria explains to you that she will provide you with a ship filled with supplies and many men to accompany you along your journey. In addition to Soteria’s supplies, you may also choose a gift from either Hermes, messenger god, or Athena, goddess of wisdom and military victory. Hermes can provide with a pair of winged sandals(a), giving you the ability to fly. Athena can provide you with a sturdier, faster ship(b). Keep this in mind: the shoes will help you as an individual on your journey, but the ship will help your entire crew. Whose gift do you choose?
[[Winged Sandals|Winged Sandals]] [[Better Ship|Better Ship]]Typhon has been causing grief to the people and needs to be defeated. Typhon is a massive monster. The lower half of his body is made of two coiled viper tails that are always hissing. He has dragon heads for fingers and wings that could cover the sun. Fire flashes from his eyes, and it is said that the only way to defeat him is with the help of Zeus. However, there was an issue. Typhon is such a treacherous beast that even the gods feared him, and Zeus would not risk himself to help just anyone defeat Typhon. The person who Zeus would help would have to prove themselves worthy by surviving the journey to Typhon’s lair and making the honorable decisions along the way.

[[Next|Choice]]And you’re off! Your ship is filled with 50 men, 49 fighting men and one captain. It is also stocked with plenty of supplies guaranteed to last you your entire journey. You have now begun your journey through some of the deadliest seas in all the lands. Prepare yourself, for this will be like nothing you have ever faced before.

(if: $gift is 2)[Meet your fate [[Next|Journey 3]]]Oh no! Your first obstacle has come! A member of your crew spots an ominous storm on the horizon. As the seconds tick by, the storm grows larger and larger. Thankfully, you chose the gift that you knew would help the entire crew. Athena’s ship is strong, so it should stand against the harshest winds and rains. It is also fast, so it should navigate you through the storm very quickly. With your entire crew doing their best to stay safe and a very skilled captain, you made your way through the storm quickly and with no losses.
[[Next|Continue 1]]As your ship pulls into the strait, your captain quickly realizes where you are. He explains that you are entering the home of the Scylla and the Charybdis. One lives on each end of the strait. The Scylla is a many headed sea monster that feeds on sailors who come too near. The Charybdis lives on the far end of the strait and can create powerful whirlpools that can engulf entire ships. The first challenge will be avoiding the Scylla.
[[Next|Journey 5]]You enter the strait and your crew becomes so silent that you could hear a pin drop. You have barely made it in when you hear a screech like nothing that you have ever heard before. The men pull out their weapons and prepare themselves for battle. As the men attack the monster, the Scylla hits the side of the ship, and the captain falls overboard. Without the captain, you will have serious difficulty navigating your way through the whirlpools created by the Charybdis. To jump in and save him could likely lead to your death. The seas are rough from the battle with the Scylla, and if the beast did not get to you first, you could drown. Do you choose to leave the captain behind or jump in and try to save him?
Your points: $s[$points]!
[[Leave his ass|Death 2]] [[Save Him|Continue 2]]After making your way through the strait, you feel prepared for the dangers ahead. You travel on for many days and nights. Days have turned into weeks. Your journey has been long and, to be honest, a bit boring since the encounter with the Charybdis and the Scylla. Both you and the crew are beginning to grow weary of what is becoming a tedious journey and of being on the ocean for so long. You miss the comforts of home, your family, your friends. It has come to the point where the journey is so mind-numbingly dull that everyone is almost looking forward to the encounter with the Typhon, just to have something to pass the time.
[[Next|Obstacle 3 2]]Suddenly, a beautiful woman appears out of nowhere on a raft. She is truly one of the most ethereal, exquisite creatures that you have ever come across. She says her name is Empusa, and she has lived on a small island close by her entire life. She knows the sea well and would be happy to have you and your crew over to her island home for a hot meal and the quickly guide you to your battle with the Typhon.
[[Next|Obstacle 3 3]]This sounds truly amazing to you. You bring the idea to your crew, believing that everyone will be thrilled. Many of the men are quick to agree, but some are more hesitant. A young man named Epikrates approaches you. Epikrates says that he and some other members of the crew have heard rumors of a creature called the Empusa. She cloaks herself as a beautiful woman to lure people in and then transforms into a creature with sharp teeth and flaming hair.
[[Next|Obstacle 3 4]]These are just rumors, small whispers that very few of your men have heard, and the decision is ultimately yours as the leader of the mission. Do you want to continue on your journey without the help of Empusa and guarantee your safety, or go with her and risk the safety of your men for the chance that she will provide you with a warm meal, dry land, and shorter route?

http://www.pantheon.org/articles/c/cyclopes.htmlThe Hydra is growing closer and closer to your ship by the second. You are scared because you know that you are vulnerable, but you know that you have the backing of your strong, valiant crew. The Hydra comes to attack, and suddenly, all of your men surround you. It is almost as if they are forming a barricade around you. The efforts of the Hydra are hopeless. Each of her attempts to attack is thwarted by the enchanted shields. One of your bravest men, Thrasius, charges toward her and plunges his sword deep into her heart.
[[Next|Continue 4 2]]After the Hydra has been defeated, you are truly stunned by the bravery of your men. They all risked their lives to protect you from the Hydra without a second thought. When you ask them about it, the answer is simple. They explain to you that it is easy to be brave and honorable when your leader is such a great example of those qualities. You have been selfless, brave, and honorable over the course of this entire quest and risked your life for members of the crew multiple times. How could they not protect you when you were most vulnerable?
[[Next|Continue 4 3]]Your heart was truly touched. After more than a month out at sea, you and the crew have never felt closer. Everyone now knows that each person in the crew is valued and will do whatever it takes to protect the other men on board. You now feel more confident in your abilities and strength as a crew than ever before. So long as you keep your honor and bravery, you know that you and your crew will succeed on your mission.
[[Next|Continue 4 4]]Soteria comes to you again proclaiming how amazed she is by you and your men. No one has ever made it this far on their journey to defeat the Typhon. Soteria informs you that this will be her last visit to you before your encounter with the Typhon. She tells you that once you have made it to his lair, you need only cry out “Zeus! I have made it through my journey! Help me defeat this treacherous beast!”, and if Zeus finds you worthy, he will come to your aid.
[[Next|Continue 4 5]]Soteria is coming to you now because you are running out of fresh water aboard your ship. She has promised to provide you with supplies and now explains that she knows where you can get the water that you seek, but you will need to be the one to obtain it. The location of the water is also home to the final creature that you will face before you fight the Typhon: the Cyclops.
[[Next|Continue 4 6]]The Cyclops is not like the beasts that you have faced before. He is a giant with one eye in the center of his forehead. He is a resourceful creature. The Cyclops makes thunderbolts for Zeus, Poseidon’s trident, and Hades’ helmet of darkness. He is a skilled craftsman who lives on an island near the lair of the Typhon where an abundance of fresh water is located.
[[Next|Continue 4 7]]The Cyclops is one of the most powerful creatures that has ever walked the earth. His great size and stature make him feared by any mortal who dares to approach him. This confrontation will not be easy, and you will face a vital decision at the end of it, but this will be the last thing that stands between you and the Typhon.
[[Next|Continue 4 8]]After another day or so on the open sea, you spot an island in the distance. As much as you do not want to encounter the Cyclops, you know that both you and the men need this water to complete your mission. You tell the captain so sail the ship towards the island and prepare your crew for what you are all about to face.
[[Next|Continue 4 9]]You set foot on the island and you and the men begin to head inland. You have been walking for only 10 minutes when you begin to hear a deep thud. The ground beneath you begins to shake. One of the men shouts out “$s[Earthquake]!”, but you know that this is something else.
[[Next|Continue 4 10]]Before you have the chance to tell the men that it is the Cyclops, he appears above the treetops. He looks down to see you and all 50 of your men at his feet. He roars down to you, “Who dares to invade my home?”. You bellow back up to him, “It is I, $Player. I am on a journey with my men to defeat the dreadful Typhon, and we have run out of fresh water. The goddess Soteria has guided us here for the water that we seek”.
[[Next|Continue 4 11]]The Cyclops erupts in laughter. “You think that you will be the one to defeat the Typhon? He is a grand beast feared by even the gods. No mortal shall defeat him”. You reply, “No mortal has tried. My men and I will defeat him with the help of Zeus. We ask only that you allow us the fresh water that we need to complete our journey”. The cyclops laughs again. “I will do no such thing. Now you trespassers will leave my home before I get truly angry”.
[[Next|Continue 4 12]]You turn around to glance at your men. Even if you were to turn back from your mission now, you do not have enough water to make the trip home. Fighting this creature could result in death, but turning back now surely would. You give your men a look, and they prepare to follow you into battle. Soteria’s warning of the Cyclops gave you time to prepare. You have come up with a plan and the men are prepared to execute it.
[[Next|Continue 4 13]]You dash through the legs of this giant with one end of rope in hand. He lifts his foot, and the men scatter. The Cyclops tries grabbing at men, but they have hidden under the canopies of the trees. You scurry behind a tree and hand the rope to Ameinias. He runs around the monster’s legs to another tree where Melegros is waiting. Melegros brings the rope back to you, but not before wrapping it around the Cyclops’ ankles once again.
[[Next|Continue 4 14]]All the while, the Cyclops is watching and trying to catch the small men around his feet, but they are too fast. He never knows from which direction they will come. This process continues, and while the creature is watching, he begins to grow dizzy. He begins to collapse. You shout to the men “move out of the way!”, and everyone runs. The cyclops falls. You and all of the men pull out your swords and other weapons and run towards the Cyclops.
[[Next|Continue 4 16]]With your sword aimed right at his single eye, you warn the Cyclops not to move, or your sword will too. The cyclops begs for mercy. He swears to you that if you free him, he will allow you to safely go retrieve your water and he will never bother another being, so long as they are honorable, kind, and brave. The Cyclops pleads with you for his life, and as you look around to the eyes of your men, you are conflicted. This beast has just tried to kill all of your men, but you believe him when he says he will change. What do you do: show mercy or kill the Cyclops?

As you sail on to your final battle, the skies continue to grow more and more ominous. There is a pit in your stomach, and you know that you will encounter the Typhon soon. You see land off in the distance and know that the time has come.
[[Next|Continue 4 18]]The captain anchors the ship, and the crew makes their way to the shore. The air is more still than you thought possible. You step foot on land and cry out to the sky, “Zeus! I have made it through my journey! Help me defeat this treacherous beast!”. You stand on the shore with your men and wait for a moment. Suddenly, the king of the gods is standing before you.

Had you killed him, I could not have helped you even if I wanted to, but because you were merciful, I am here to help you defeat the Typhon”.
[[Next|Continue 5 2]]Hearing these words from the mouth of Zeus is the greatest honor that you could ever imagine. This journey has tested you in ways that you never thought possible, both physically and morally, but hearing this has made everything worth it. You now feel more prepared than ever before for the battle ahead of you.
[[Next|Continue 5 3]]Out of nowhere, the Typhon emerges in front of you. He is like nothing you have ever seen before, and you cannot help but feel intimidated. You look to Zeus to see him holding his infamous thunderbolt and know that this is your destiny. The Typhon spreads his wings, and the world around you goes dark. Flames ignite from his eyes, and everyone scatters. Where the world was dark before, the flames now light the way.
[[Next|Continue 5 4]]You and the men charge at the great beast, hacking away at viper tails and dragon-headed fingers. The Typhon is too distracted with you and the men to notice Zeus. The king of the gods launches himself into the air and thrusts his thunderbolt directly into the heart of the Typhon.
