There’s an out of control trolley speeding towards **Immanuel Kant**. You have the ability to pull a lever and change the trolley’s path so it hits **Jeremy Bentham** instead. **Jeremy Bentham** clutches the only existing copy of **Kant’s** //Groundwork of the Metaphysic of Morals//. **Kant** holds the only existing copy of **Bentham’s** //The Principles of Morals and Legislation//. Both of them are shouting at you that they have recently started to reconsider their ethical stances. [[Pull the lever (Kill **Bentham**)|Bentham dies]] [[Stand and watch events unfold (Kill **Kant**)|Kant dies]]You leap over to the lever and pull it with all the strength in your body. The rail clicks and, at the junction, the trolley swerves right, almost falling off the tracks. Almost, but not quite. **Bentham** is reduced to tiny English giblets. **Kant's** work flies apart into a hundred pages, all of which catch fire. **Kant** is beside himself with grief. "YOU MONSTER, HOW COULD YOU?" he yells ungratefully. "You killed the founder of modern utilitarianism!" How do you respond? [["A great man lives on in his ideas."|Kant response]] [["Haha woops."|Kant response]]You stand agog as the trolley races towards its dreadful terminus. **Kant's** eyes widen in the final second before he's rolled over like dough. **Bentham's** work turns to dust in the wake of 500 pounds of surprisingly heavy trolley. **Bentham** flies into a rage. "WHY DIDN'T YOU DO ANYTHING YOU TOTAL ASSHOLE?" he yells ungratefully. "You killed one of the greatest modern philosophers to have ever lived!" How do you respond? [["A great man lives on in his ideas."|Bentham response]] [["Haha woops."|Bentham response]]**Kant** isn't listening, only weeping beside the chunked corpse of a great man. You know you killed **Bentham**, but maybe it was **Kant** who really died.
